Fracking
The 'greenest government ever' strikes again......

MPs have voted to allow fracking under Britain’s national parks, drawing accusations that the government has sneaked the measure through parliament without a proper debate.

Ministers used a statutory instrument – a form of secondary legislation – to push through the new rules, which means legislation can pass into law without a debate in the House of Commons. MPs voted in favour by 298 to 261.

The new rules allow fracking 1,200 metres below national parks and sites of special scientific interest, as long as drilling takes place from outside protected areas. This comes despite the government previously pledging an outright ban on the controversial technique for extracting shale gas in such areas.

They know better than us so we should not concern ourselves with any bypassing of pesky laws and democratic protocol.

What are you, a gard damn COMMIE?

Which way did Ian Bell vote?

I heard he's all for fracking.

Great news.

The less reliant we are on middle east oil, the better. We can pull out of that cesspit once and for all then and watch them destroy themselves.

Re: Fracking
If we're going to burn fuel, I reckon it would be better using the much cleaner ethanol from bio fuels (best to use Hemp) tahn burning gas , oil or coal, stewie.

It would still free us from the durka durka oil supply.

Re: Fracking
Don't be ridiculous Lily. We couldn't grow enough bio fuels without chopping down all the rain forests like they do already for palm oil production.

Fracking cuts the oil price and everyone reckons it's safe so I'd rather see what happens. I saw some NIMBY woman this morning saying it threatens our water supply but frankly, UK is hardly short of alternative water supplies. And NIMBYs seem to object against anything new.

The Russians and Arabs will also suffer from depressed oil prices so carry on fracking UK. Mind you they should have called it something like "romancing" oil & gas out of the ground and it would have been welcomed...

Oil prices are on the floor and falling.

There is loads of evidence for damaged water supply.

Cheating the electorate by not allowing proper debate in parliament.

Tories lining their own pension funds again.

I wish we could buy one of our special super duper bombs, set it to just kill thieving right wing cunts and set it off in parliament.

Mate, Hemp will grow easily in every field farmers already have, reagrdless of the previous crop, and any crop will follow it. A crop of Hemp perfectly prepares teh field for teh next crop. The research showed (in the 90s, can't have changed too much) taht you only need to use 6% of existing farmland to provide all the US energy needs.

And as for the trees, 1 acre of Hemp provides the same amount of paper (far superior quality papper to boot) as 4 acres of trees.

The only big problem is that it grows so easily, three harvests a year, that there isn't much money in it, or any easy way of monopolising the business, so our super rich energy barons might not like the idea.

Fucking great news, depressed oil prices are great unless you have oil investments.

Re: Fracking
I used to manage huge fracking operations in Oman and apart from equipment under extremely high pressure on the ground during the Frac it's as safe as houses.

Depending on suitable geology accessed via seismic surveys and the company you hire to do it of course.

Huge benefits, little risk if managed properly.

So why is there such catastrophic fuck ups in USA then ?

Isnt this just another case of damaging the environment to get another 'product that can be sold'.

Im not that well versed in the truth of it. I know the principles involved in getting it and understand the science but every report I see either says "Fracking good" or "Fracking really bad". Its hard to tell the good science form the bad.

Genuinely, I wouldnt trust any profit making company to run this operation. They will cut corners for maximum profit and put people at risk.

Yeah right, because nationalised companies are very efficient and always keep up to date with technology whilst never letting their labour costs spiral out of control, don't they?
